Architechture

Dark Arkitekter, based in Oslo, is the architect behind Fornebuporten. Dark drew its inspiration for this spectacular building from the offshore industry, and we see clear similarities with an offshore oil platform.

“The goal has been to create an inviting Scandinavian atmosphere with clarity in design and functions. The indoor materials possess warm and tactile qualities.”

Key features include:

Facade of glass and aluminum cladding
Elevated ground floor
16 meters of free-hanging structures that shine brightly throughout the night

In the interior design of Fornebuporten, Dark / Fornebuporten drew inspiration from leading companies such as Apple and Google, emphasizing the importance of creating social spaces where people can interact and exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere that fosters new innovation and improved work practices. This is most evident in the spacious ground floor, which houses the reception area, cafeteria, conference and meeting rooms, as well as a café, restaurant, and bar. Fornebuporten has also invested over 60 million NOK in the expansive outdoor area, converting parts of the former airport's asphalt into a green park and pathways for walking and cycling, connecting the outdoor areas of Fornebu with Fornebuporten.

Interior architecture with a focus on the human experience.

ZINC, in collaboration with Dark Arkitekter, has been central to the development of the Fornebuporten project. Fornebuporten is innovative in that the building's common functions on the ground floor are accessible to the public. Here, we have focused on developing a large inviting area that will serve as a social hub for users and residents, as well as a grand hall for the industry that gathers in the Fornebu area. This includes a shared reception and information point for the building, commercial spaces such as a coffee bar, bakery, pizzeria, bar, restaurant, and staff restaurant, all in areas that can be used for meetings and events outside of lunch hours.

The goal has been to create an inviting Scandinavian atmosphere with clarity in design and functions. The indoor materials feature warm and tactile qualities. The relaxed atmosphere throughout the building, with a few central open meeting areas, encourages social interaction of both informal and more private nature, fostering the human interaction, creativity, and innovation that Fornebuporten aims to embrace.
